CLARITY

Of the 4 C's, clarity is the easiest to understand. In a sentence - Clarity is a measure of how many tiny,

natural imperfections exist in a diamond. Clarity has the least impact on a diamond’s appearance

because most of these imperfections (or inclusions) are microscopic and therefore invisible to the naked eye.

The HRD and DCLA, grade clarity according to the following IDC scale:
  1. LC: Loupe Clean. No internal imperfections. Very rare.
  2. VVS1: Very very small inclusions. Very difficult to see the imperfections even under 10 times magnification. An excellent quality diamond.
  3. VVS2: Very very small inclusions, but more than VVS1
  4. VS1: Very small inclusions. Inclusions are still not visible to the naked eye.
  5. VS2: Very small inclusions, but more than VS1
  6. Si1: Small inclusions. The imperfections are visible under 10 times magnification and might be visible to the naked eye. Diamonds of this clarity grade are considered good value diamonds.
  7. Si2: Small inclusions but more than Si1.
  8. P1: Internal inclusions that are hard, but not impossible to see with just the naked eye. We have a limited quantity of P1 diamonds.
  9. P2: Inclusions - with very limited effect on the brilliance of the diamond.
  10. P3: Large inclusions that are clearly visible to the naked eye and have a definite effect on the brilliance of the diamond and therefore on the overall value of the diamond. Needless to say, none of the diamonds in our collection fall in this grade category.

The GIA and IGI grade clarity accordingly:

  1. IF: Internally Flawless. No internal imperfections aside from graining. Very rare.
  8. I1: Internal inclusions that are hard, but not impossible to see with just the naked eye. We have a limited quantity of P1 diamonds.
  9. I2: Inclusions - with very limited effect on the brilliance of the diamond.
  10. I3: Large inclusions that are clearly visible to the naked eye and have a definite effect on the brilliance of the diamond and therefore on the overall value of the diamond. Needless to say, none of the diamonds in our collection fall in this grade category.
